Journey between heaven and hell
The band 30 Seconds to Mars struggled with themselfs – now the new single will be released

To be a musician and actor – is difficult for some. But Jared Leto is one of the few who manages both, singing career AND camera, good and pretty successful.
At last, published from the third record „This is War“ (released in Dec. 2009), tomorrow the single „Closer to the edge“, kind of a hymne classified arena song by the band 30 Seconds to Mars will be a released.
The video clip concentrates the attention on the Fans. The responsibility for directing and editing the clip goes to Leto himself.
Fans are the main characters in the video and are meanwhile be heard on the record as well.
The voices and sounds were recorded at several meetings/summits by the band – as well as digital. Everyone was able to send in their voice and sound recordings via Twitvid.

Interview

WK: Do you already have a vision for a new digital project in the future?
JL: Not a specific idea, but I think its in general exciting to encourage a dialogue. If you‘re able to extract the idea of a community. A community which does not just sit separately on their computers. The internet is a platform where people, who are spatial separated, get together – also in a very profound way and not just superficially.

WK: „Closer to the edge“ can be found on the record „This is War“. The title of the record refers to the battles which the band, had to fight during the recordings. Which battles are we talking about?
JL: Creative, personal battles. While recording the album we were for sure able to learn a lot about conflicts – which is not necessarily a bad thing. It is actually an ultimate Instructor.
The things which happened on this record developed to a real War and sometimes you have to go through it to find peace.

WK: Did you succeed?
JL: Yes, definitely!

WK: If you look back now with a certain distance, was it really a kind of a War or rather a journey between heaven and hell?
JL: A little bit of both. I mean, sometimes you need to fight some fights on this journey between heaven and hell. Fights that should teach us something. With some fights you should confront yourself with while you might accept other things and move on.

WK: Are you someone who never gives up? A fighter?
JL: Yes, I am. I am not shying away from confrontations, but I am also not hell-bent on fighting constantly. I don‘t contemplate life in general as a fight – not always…sometimes.

WK: To what extent relates the record title also to the fights which the world has to endure to survive?
JL: This absolutely played a part, because it happened a lot while we were recording the album. A lot of changes, a lot of problems which punish all of us, – financially, regarding the safety and politically. We also voted a new President in the USA. It was an interesting time to make new music. I don‘t think, people aren‘t active enough against worldwide problems or are too lazy. I would rather say that many are way too uninspired.

WK: In which way did you inspired the monks, which payed you a short visit in the studio for the recordings?
JL: It was simply a magical moment when they sang – and we joined. A fantastic happening. But it had nothing to do with religion.
